The latest public health authority reminding people to protect themselves against mosquitoe bites is the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) in Victoria.
Although most of our holidays are winding down, we’re still making the most of hot, humid weather and so are others in nature including mosquitoes. Residents are being warned that if they plan on going camping or having barbeques outside, they need to take extra precautions against mosquitoe bites.
Mosquitoes are the most dangerous insect if you take into consideration the number of people they kill each year due to infection. Here in Australia they carry diseases like Ross River virus, Barmah Forest virus and Kunjin virus.
It’s especially important if you’re outdoors to wear protective clothing that covers up and to apply and re-apply insect repellent.
You can also protect your family by ensuring all openings to your home are covered with a retractable screen.
